The recent Hex U16 and U18 Inter-provincial was contested between Free State, Western Province, Eastern Province, Boland and the Southern Cape who must have the youngest teams competing in South Africa. Many of the team members have had to step up an age group because there are so few competitive 17 and 18 year olds in the Southern Cape and while that makes it difficult for the younger guys at the moment I believe it will lead to the province being very strong over the next few years.
KeNako was represented in the U18 team by Mohit Mediratta while Garen Niemand, Aidan and Caylum Boon played in the U16 team. Congratulations to all the players selected for this inter provincial and well done the U16 team who finished second.
The tournament was held at the wonderful Kathu Golf Club near Sishen – one of the hidden gems on the South African golfing landscape. The players found the course particularly challenging with the ball from an errant drive landing in and getting caught up in the Camel Thorn trees and they all commented on the very good condition of the greens. The KeNako boys said they enjoyed playing in different conditions and would like to thank the Kathu Club for their warm hospitality. These tournaments go a long way in developing a players game because of the varying conditions and the students games would all have improved with the experience.
