GOLF TEAM

KENAKO KINGS TEAM

‘ke nako’ is a Sotho saying that means ‘the time has come’ or ‘it is time’

KeNako is situated in the heart of the Garden Route,  bordering the Kingswood & Fancourt Golf Estates. The region boasts some of the top courses in the country.

KeNako offers golfers of all ages and abilities an opportunity to grow their game through a number of opportunities which exist at KeNako.

THE KENAKO ACADEMY GOLF PROGRAMME

The Academy offers a variety of options for the golfer, depending on your requirements. During the year KeNako hosts the KeNako Schools Festival and a number of Holiday Camps.

The golf programme is headed by respected player and coach, Roger Wessels, an ex-tour professional and South African World Cup international . Both Roger and Carlo Kok, our other programme professional, work hand-in-hand managing the physical and mental skills programmes. The physical programme is conducted in KeNako’s gym whilst the mental skills programme happens in the KeNako Academy auditorium.

SCHOOL LEAVERS/GAP YEAR PROGRAMME

On finishing school, most young adults have little idea as to what they wish to do in their future lives. KeNako Academy offers an opportunity for a School Leaver to enrol for a yearlong programme that will allow them time to find their feet but simultaneously improve skills in many different ways. The students live in the fantastic academy facility where they will make lifelong friends with people from different countries of the world whilst participating in a golf or tennis programme that includes both physical and mental skills training. The physical and mental training programmes are designed to enhance skills on a broad basis and to develop excellent future life habits. Students wishing to study whilst at KeNako Academy are able to participate in selected academic options. Serious sports men and women as well as social players are welcome to attend the School Leaver Programme. The programme is adjusted to suit individual requirements.

GAP YEAR

A GAP YEAR WITH FOCUS

The GAP Year Programme at KeNako Academy offers a school leaver an opportunity to experience an enjoyable year whilst they find themselves and make some life decisions; all within a fun but disciplined environment.  During their year at KeNako Academy the GAP Year student’s golf will show some serious improvement, as will their physical condition including their knowledge about their body.  If interested, the GAP Year students also have an opportunity to study selected courses whilst at the academy. Another plus factor is that they are mixing with young champions, which in itself breeds positive traits. Experience

shows that they forge new life-long and quality friendships.  An amazing spirit prevails within KeNako Academy!

Be it recreational or professional, the game of golf lends itself to enhancing life skills – including aspects such as discipline, social skills, planning, management, personal responsibility and many other fundamental faculties essential to future life.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

FULL TIME STUDENT

The School Leaver programme is morning focussed, with the afternoons dedicated to playing time on one of the fabulous golf courses played by the KeNako Academy students.  School Leavers train every morning and have free access to the Driving Range and the putting green where they are able to practice at any time.

SHORT-TERM PROGRAMME.

Young adults can join KeNako Academy for an intensive short term programme for a set period. This can be as short as 3 or 4 weeks or as long as 6 months in duration.

Short-term students from overseas may, as an example, join KeNako for a programme during the European winter recess. The period October through to April of the following year seems to be the most popular for European students, especially the first quarter of each calendar year. Asian students have been accommodated at different times.

PROFESSIONAL GOLFERS

GOLF AS A CAREER

The golf programme offers young golfers a positive environment where they can fully explore their talents surrounded by and competing with other like-minded young individuals.

The KeNako Programme contributes to preparing young golfers for life as a touring professional golfer. The programme requires discipline, dedication, practice, self-assessment, and introspection, all with the support of the KeNako Professionals.

Whilst the technical side of golf is critically important – players require a swing that is proficient and that will stand up under pressure – the physical and mental aspects of a successful career in golf are equally important.

The intention of this element of the School Leaver programme is that once the student completes their training time at KeNako Academy, which could be just one year or an extended time (perhaps 3 years), they will be ready to enter and qualify for Tour School.

MORE KENAKO TRAINING OPTIONS

INDIVIDUALS

We provide total golf solutions with experts in each of the technical, physical, mental and nutritional disciplines. Besides the specialized professional support, KeNako offers first-rate practice and playing facilities and an on-site gymnasium with high-quality apparatus.

Most recreational golfers love the game of golf and have a desire to improve their games, but they are often ill-equipped to achieve their goals. They may have physical conditions that inhibit their ability to play more effectively; alternatively they may have physical limitations that they are unaware of and that need to be taken into account when working on their golf swing.

Recreational golfers can either work together with the KeNako professionals on a part-time basis or alternatively book an intensive 3-5 day golf programme that embraces all of the technical, physical and mental aspects relating to the game; one that will make a difference to their ability to play the game of golf.

For individual golf tuition bookings and costs contact us on 044 874 0370

TEAMS

Sporting teams are able to use KeNako either as a training base or for team building. Teams are welcome to bring their own professional staff to work with them; alternatively they can make use of the KeNako professionals. The equipment in the gymnasium has been specifically designed to allow for teams to train.  There are 3 Treatment Rooms and additional space can be allocated for treatment if requested. KeNako also has a Training Swimming Pool, an Ice Bath and a Jacuzzi.

For after training time KeNako offers very comfortable lounge and relaxation areas, whilst the 56 seater Auditorium can either be used for recreational DVD or TV viewing or it can be used for team lectures.

Over the years KeNako has hosted a number of professional and National teams, including the ABSA Celebrity Cycling Team, the Kenya Sevens Rugby Team, the Swiss National Golf Team, the UWC Rugby Team, the Western Province Girls Rugby Team, and the Western Province Rugby B Team.

TESTIMONIALS

“KeNako has had a major role in shaping me into who I am and my development as an adult. Not only did my passion for golf grow, I have also grown tremendously as a person as a result of my experience at KeNako. I’ve had the privilege of being able to study in a college in the United States. And in May of last year, I graduated Magna Cum Laude. KeNako Academy and golf opened the door to the scholarship I also hope that others are motivated to completely invest themselves into the KeNako program because it is extremely rewarding.

I would also like to thank all the staff at KeNako Academy for encouraging me and helping me see my potential. I will continue to take what I have learnt into my future studies and endeavours.”

Charnay Williams

“It is a while since I left KeNako Academy but it is still very much part of my life. I would like to take this opportunity to thank KeNako Golf Academy for my development, both in golf and in life. I came to the academy as an 11 handicap golfer and left as a 2 in the space of 3 years. KeNako has not only dramatically changed my golf but it has also changed my thought process and my approach to life and its challenges. In a few weeks’ time I will be leaving SA for Dubai. I wouldn’t have been able to go there if it wasn’t for the grounding and development skills that KeNako has taught me. ‘Skills for Life’ is the promise and KeNako lives this Motto!”

Phumlani Maluka

We enrolled our youngest at the age of 14 and he thrived emotionally and as a golfer. We were impressed with the facilities, staff and programmes offered. He won player of the year at KeNako for the next three years and this year won the leading Amateur in the SA Open and was awarded the Freddie Tait Trophy as the winning Amateur. Without the grounding at KeNako this would not have been possible. We also noticed that he grew emotionally and in confidence with his KeNako experience. KeNako has played a major role in our lives and I thank you all.”

Darryl Thwaits CA (Z), CA (SA), MBA (Scot). Independent Consultant

“I would like to thank the whole team at KeNako for a wonderful 3 years that James enjoyed at KeNako. When he started at KeNako he was a young boy, full of enthusiasm and a passion for Golf. Today he is a great young man and athlete, the passion for the game he loves so much still burns fiercely in him, only now he has the solid base on which he can grow and improve his game.James still refers to Kenako as if he is still part of the team – this is how much he loves KeNako and the KeNako team. It is a great tribute to you and your team at KeNako and I know that KeNako will always be close to our hearts.”

Mike Pennington

“I can only thank KeNako for giving me the final push to become the player I am today. Roger Wessels is not just the best golf coach I’ve worked with but the greatest Gentleman of the game I know. The facilities at KeNako are world class and the students at KeNako Academy don’t know just how lucky they are to be in such a world class facility and with such high quality professionals. As an outside professional it is really great to see the program and the positive impact that it is having on the students at KeNako Academy

I sincerely have to thank the Team at KeNako for changing my life. It’s only been a pleasant and enjoyable experience being part of such an amazing institute. I look forward to my future with great expectation and I believe that I will be reaching all my goals with the continued help of KeNako.”

Heinrich Bruiners

“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage any parent who is contemplating enrolling their child into your programme, to do so without hesitation, as you will get a much more matured child back. The positive changes will be noticed from day one, as a mother I can testify to that. Thank you for entrenching good healthy habits in our sons life as this was also coupled with the ethos of discipline that KeNako strives to achieve, which has now become part of his daily routine. We will miss you all but remember our lives are forever intertwined, as we are part of the Kenako family forever. Thank you with lots of appreciation and love.”

The Jooste Family

“Congratulations to the team at KeNako for an amazing World Juniors event and a great experience! Earlier this year the Austrian Golf Federation asked me to travel with a team to the KeNako World Juniors as coach. The tournament was very well organised, the hospitality was great and the course was in super condition – a good test for the players. I highly recommend this tournament to any country or player who want to experience really high quality tournament golf. Thanks for letting me and the Austrian team be a part of the KeNako World Juniors! This really was an awesome experience and one of the best junior tournaments that I have ever attended! I now know why South-Africa produces so many good golfers – it is because they look after the future and that is junior golf.”

Head Professional – Reit im Winkl Golf Club

“I went along to KeNako as a complete novice. I’d hit a few golf balls before but had hardly managed to get the ball off the ground. KeNako has given me the confidence to actually start playing golf without feeling embarrassed about being a beginner.”

International Guest

“The physical coaching/assessment opened my eyes again to how extensively the body is interconnected and how this effects your actual swing. They gave me exercises to improve strength and flexibility which will again hopefully add more consistency to my game . Overall, it was an eye opening and a very productive experience.”
