A windy welcome for St John’s school at KeNako!
KeNako hosted the St John’s golf tour on Saturday 14th April 2012.  The boys had enjoyed a great schedule and played 7 of the wonderful courses along the Garden Route including Mossel Bay, Oubaai, Kingswood, Pinnacle Point, Pezula, George and Fancourt (Montagu).  It is just as well their day at KeNako happened on the Saturday as the wind was so strong they would not have been able to play golf at all had golf been scheduled for that day.

All the boys had their swings videoed by Roger Wessels (Head Professional Coach) in the morning while Jan Fourie (Biokineticist) gave the two of the boys a physical golf assessment in the KeNako gym.  Kingswood Golf Estate’s course designer (Danie Obermeyer) gave a talk to the boys in the KeNako auditorium about course design and how one should, as a player, look at a hole to work out an on-course strategy.

After a busy morning the boys had the pleasure of enjoying lunch at the KeNako Academy with a light meal prepared by Rob Douglas, KeNako’s chef.  Then it was back to the program for the day, with the afternoon starting with feedback from both Roger and Jan on each individual’s swing in the Board Room.  From there the boys moved back to the Driving Range and the wind where they were able to at least try and work on some of the tips that they had just received.  Roger then gave the boys a demonstration on how to hit low shots into the wind.  The scheduled short game skills session then had to be cancelled because the balls were blowing off the putting green!
KeNako Academy looks forward to hosting St John’s School again in future years and to seeing a team from St John’s playing in the KeNako Schools Golf Festival in 2013.
