It was exciting to see 2 of KeNako’s up-and-coming young students Caylum Boon (14 years old) and Cameron Moralee (just turned 15 years old) shooting 2 under par 70’s to tie at the top of the leaderboard for last week’s KeNako Junior Series tournament played at Oubaai. It was a career best score (to date) for Caylum and Cameron’s best competitive score since joining the KeNako Academy as a student at the beginning of 2012. As it happens these two boys are room-mates at the academy!
Caylum’s round included a remarkable 2 at the tough par 4 16th hole where he sank his 6 iron from the fairway, followed by another 2 at the short 17th hole. Not too many players will have played 16 and 17 at Oubaai in a total 4 shots! After his fantastic fairway shot at the 16th hole Caylum’s tee shot at the 17th hole lipped out for a hole in one. Cameron needed to birdie the par 5 18th hole to tie Caylum and he duly did this, sinking a curling 30 foot putt to the back pin position to finish his round in style. Both of these boys were in the victorious Southern Cape U14 team that won the recent Fish River inter-provincial tournament.
Another KeNako student Brandon Jooste won the Best Nett prize with a score of nett 72 off his 9 handicap. Brandon’s golf is showing steady improvement and it will not be long before he is shooting consistent scores in the 70’s.
Yet another KeNako student James Pennington is starting to play well and he had his best result to date in finishing in 4th position.
