Another successful winter holiday camp was presented by the KeNako Team this past week. Youngsters from places as far afield as Kimberley, Benoni, Somerset West and George attended a wonderful week which was not only about enjoying golf but also about having fun away from golf.
From a golfing perspective the players had their swings analysed by Roger Wessels and were given drills to use in practice for correcting the errors that had been identified. Making changes and then implementing them immediately on the golf course is no easy task. In reality making a change to one’s golf swing is generally a fairly long process, so the students leave the KeNako Holiday Camp with a better understanding of their golf swing and positive changes that they can take away and work on at home.
George is known for its wonderful golf courses and the ‘Holiday Campers’ had the pleasure of playing George Golf Club, Kingswood Golf Estate and the tight, challenging nine hole Dolphins Creek course nestled amongst the dunes in Great Brak.
They also had short game instruction from Roger followed by a short game skills test which was thoroughly enjoyed by all and won by Lyle Mills from Kimberley who holed his chip shot on the last hole to win by one. The winning golfer on Friday was local lad Riaan Grootboom who beat Keanan Aysen from Kimberley.
Activity and Life Skills are what KeNako’s Holiday Camps are about. In spite of some unpleasant weather the Campers went zip lining on the obstacle course at Timberlake, something that was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody. The boys found it challenging and had a lot of laughs. Fortunately there were indoor activities as well and they had a great time Ten Pin bowling. KeNako’s chef, Rob Douglas, was as always also involved in the Holiday Camp program and taught the boys how to make his tasty fish cakes – sure to impress their families when they get home.
It was great hosting the youngsters from around the country at KeNako’s wonderful facility and a number of them have booked already for the Summer Camp in December. As always new friends were made and fond memories will linger and hopefully bring some if not all of the youngsters back to our beautiful city George in years to come.
