The Southern Cape Open Championship is one of South Africa’s major amateur tournaments. The 2012 tournament was played at the George Golf Club this past weekend 10th to 12th August. The tough weather conditions were reflected in the scoring over the four rounds. George has had a great deal of rain over the past week but compliments to the green keeping staff who did a wonderful job in getting the course ready for the players – although the fairways were extremely wet the greens played fast and true.

Four of KeNako’s top students were overseas playing the Harder German Junior Masters so were unable to play the Southern Cape Open. A few KeNako students entered the tournament but struggled in the tough conditions and missed the cut which is never pleasant, but invaluable experience was gained. An observation passed by Roger to the KeNako players – practice hard, play easy.
Ex-KeNako student Breyten Meyer, who has continued to work with the KeNako team since leaving school, had a successful tournament. Breyten has had a number of good finishes this year and continued his good form with a 5th placed finish in the Southern Cape Open. A poor start on Sunday morning cost him a higher placed finish but it is just a matter of time before this very talented young golfer breaks through and wins a big event. Well played Breyten and keep practicing![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
