KeNako students took the top 3 positions in the final Southern Cape Order of Merit tournament played at George Golf Club on Sunday 4th November. What is even more exciting is that some of the boys shot career best rounds, whilst others managed to achieve their goals for the year.

Cameron Moralee once again showed just how much he has improved by shooting a 2 under par 70 to be the overall winner on the day. Cameron’s game has really blossomed and his recent performances have truly been stellar. His win on Sunday came after he was acknowledged at the official KeNako Awards evening on Saturday night not only as the Most Improved Player of the Year but also as Player of the Year. He fully deserved both accolades and if he is able to continue with his current progress 2013 can see great things happening for Cameron as he takes his next step along the road to excellence. On Sunday Cameron had got off to a poor start and was 2 over par early in his round, but he showed his mental toughness, his resilience and his ability to focus by playing 4 under par thereafter.

Just as exciting were the performances of Phumlani Maluka and Franklin Manchest in 2nd and 3rd positions. Both boys shot level par 72, a truly outstanding achievement for these two boys. For both boys it was a career best round. When Phumlani joined the KeNako Academy at the beginning of 2012 he was an 11 handicap, with enthusiasm for the game but little competitive experience and scores mostly in the 80’s. That he has been able to finish the year with a level par 72 against the strongest field of the year speaks volumes for his improvement and the quality of the KeNako Academy programme.

Franklin Manchest was part of the local Development Board programme and a decision was made to enrol Franklin as a full time student. The improvement, not only in Franklin’s game, but in other parts of Franklin’s life has been amazing and it is a tribute to the professionals at the KeNako Academy. About 2 or 3 months ago, during one of his mental skills lectures, Franklin wrote down that his goal was to score a level par 72 in a competitive round before the end of the year 2012 and the George SCOOM offered his final opportunity to achieve this goal. It is a fantastic accolade for Franklin that he was able to do this under pressure. Franklin actually managed to get to 5 under par during his round and he will learn from this experience.

Finally Charnay Williams also starred again by winning the Best Nett prize in the B Division. What a tournament for the KeNako boys and girls![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
