KeNako Students Excel in Oubaai Club Championships

KeNako students filled 6 of the top 10 positions in the Oubaai Club Championships, which were won by rising star Cameron Moralee with rounds of 67 and 72, a total of 5 under par.  Cameron is still just 15 years old and forms part of an amazing group of 15 year olds currently attending the KeNako Academy.  Cameron finished the year 2012 ranked number one on the Southern Cape Order of Merit and he has continued to improve his game in 2013.

Mossel Bay Neurologist Dr Robbie Botha enjoyed an outstanding 36 holes to finish second at one under par and he was followed by KeNako student Garen Niemand in 3rd place, who followed a first round 74 with a second round 2 under par 70.  Other KeNako students who finished in the top 10 included Hayden Garcia, a new boy at the academy who finished tied 4th, Caylum Boon and Johan Oosthuizen who finished tied 6th and Brandon Jooste, who finished in 10th place.

Other highlights included Brandon Jooste winning the Best Nett prize and Garen Niemand winning the Junior Trophy.  Both the Best Nett and the Junior Championship trophies were decided over 18 holes on Sunday due to play being suspended on Saturday due to lightning and rain, which meant that players in the B and C Divisions were unable to complete their rounds.

The KeNako students had to deal with something of a challenge after Saturday’s first round, with KeNako’s 60 year old Chairman Ron Boon managing to shoot a first round 73!
