Excellent Scoring by Later Starters

Players who teed off later in the first round of the KeNako SA World Juniors were able to enjoy easier conditions than the morning field, but this takes nothing away from the excellent scoring achieved by players in the afternoon at the tough but picturesque Kingswood Golf Course.

Sean Bradley, from Cape Town, leads the field at the end of day one after an outstanding score of 67.  Sean reached the turn 1 under par but then made two eagles on holes 10 and 12 to move to 5 under par.  After dropping a shot at the 14th hole, a par 4 that caused some problems for players today, Sean birdied the 17th hole to get his card back to 5 under par.  Sean is the son of professional golfer Wayne Bradley, a well known name in South African golf.

Sean leads by 1 shot from Cameron Davis of Australia, who played in the tougher morning conditions, and HP van der Merwe, from Paarl in South Africa.  HP scored 2 under par on each of the 9 holes, whilst Davis played the tougher front 9 holes in 3 under par, playing the relatively easier back 9 holes in 1 under par.

3 Players are tied in 4th position at 2 under par, including Blake Windred from Australia; and Samuel Schiff and Lucas Knecht, both from Switzerland.  Windred played in the morning and the two Swiss boys teed off in the afternoon field.  A further 6 boys are tied in 7th position at one under par 71.

In the Girl’s Division defending champion Lara Weinstein played outstanding golf, scoring 5 under par 67.  Lara made 7 birdies and dropped a shot at each of holes 8 and 13.  Lara leads by 4 from the number one player on the WJGS tour in 2012, Czilla Lajtai Rózsa, from Hungary.  Czilla attends an academy in Florida in the USA and she continued with her good form at the Am-Am played on Sunday when she was in the winning team.  Czilla was the only other girl to break par, shooting a one under par 71.  Cara Gorlei from the Milnerton Golf Club in Cape Town lies in third position with her 73, one better than Michaela Fletcher, also of South Africa.  Ji Sun Kang and Olivia le Roux are tied 5th at 3 over par 75.
