Aidan Boon followed up on last week’s OOM win at Kingswood by winning the SCOOM tournament at Simola, scoring a one under par 71, a score matched by Alan Lones. The boys had to play-off for the title which Aidan won at the first play-off hole.
Aidan played an outstanding first nine holes, turning in 3 under par 33 before playing the back nine in 2 over 38. Aidan’s started by birdieing the par 5 first hole then almost holed out for one at the beautiful par 4 second hole where he hit his driver off the elevated tee to just 2 feet from the pin at this 338 metre hole. His eagle at the second set him up for the day. Aidan 3 putted the fifth hole to drop a shot but managed to birdie the par 5 seventh hole to get his score back to 3 under par.
Alan had played the first nine in 1 under par 35 and had fallen to one over par for his round with 2 to play but he then birdied both 17 and 18 to force the play-off. As it happens Aidan and Alan have been room-mates at the KeNako Academy hostel since the beginning of the year, so despite each boy wanting to win they have a huge amount of respect for each other and it was an excellent result for both boys.
Aidan’s twin brother Caylum Boon finished in 3rd place with a one over par 73 and Caylum also won the A Division Best Nett prize. All three boys are still only 15 years old. The Simola tournament ended another very successful week for the KeNako Academy students and the results are an endorsement of the continued excellence of the quality of program that the students at KeNako Academy enjoy.
Simola is a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course and, besides being an excellent test of golf, some of the views from the course are quite spectacular. From the clubhouse and on the second nine holes one looks out towards the Knysna Heads, whilst on the other side of the course one overlooks the river that flows into the Knysna Lagoon and the hills above the river. The young golfers playing junior golf in the Southern Cape are privileged to be able to play at and experience the many beautiful courses in the region. Simola is certainly one of them.[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]
