Cameron Moralee showed that he is now over his recent operation when he scored an excellent 69 to win the KeNako Junior Series played at Kingswood on Sunday 19th May. Cameron has over the past 18 months developed into an outstanding young golfer and his consistent performances aptly exemplify his good attitude and his burgeoning ability. Cameron played what is generally regarded as the easier front 9 holes at Kingswood in 3 under par 34, birdieing all 3 par 5’s as well as the par 4 fifth hole, but dropping a shot at the par 3 sixth hole. He played steady par golf on the back nine, birdieing the par 3 twelfth hole and dropping a shot at the par 4 thirteenth to come home in level par and finish his round at 3 under par.
Fellow KeNako student Hayden Garcia was runner up with a 2 under par 70. Hayden played both nines in one under par for his fantastic result. Hayden hails from the Western Cape and since arriving at KeNako he has made some substantial changes to his game that will stand him in good stead in years to come. Hayden has a very good attitude and the work that he is putting into his game is starting to pay dividends. Aidan Boon, winner of the last 2 Southern Cape junior tournaments, was third with a 74.
Young Alex van Wyk deserves special mention. Alex got off to the worst possible start, scoring a triple bogey 8 on the par 5 first hole and then dropping a shot at the par 3 second hole to put him 4 over par after just 2 holes. He showed that he has an excellent attitude and strong resolve by playing the next 7 holes in 3 under par, with birdies at the third, sixth and ninth holes to turn in one over par 38. He played the tough back nine in 2 over par 37 to finish with a gross 75 and this allowed him to win the Best Nett prize, scoring a nett 69 off his 6 handicap.
In the U13 Division Norman Seton scored an outstanding one over par 73 to comfortably win by 3 shots from Luhan Bester, who scored a 76. Norman plays off a 3 handicap and Luhan is a 5 handicap. The under 13’s play of the Ladies tees. In recent times Norman has been one of the stars of the Southern Cape U13 Division. He is about to turn 13 so he will start competing off the men’s tees. Luhan is still only 11 years old and he set to become one of the U13 star players.
