Physical Programme: Complete Fitness!

In the KeNako Physical Programme at the moment, students are learning and experiencing more about what it means to be fit.  If one’s goal is optimum physical competence in any sport, all 10 general physical skills must be considered in an evaluation of fitness:

  1. Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance
  2. Stamina (muscle- and body energy systems endurance)
  3. Strength
  4. Speed
  5. Power
  6. Flexibility
  7. Coordination
  8. Agility
  9. Balance & Stability
  10. Accuracy – the ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity.

Exercise programs for the students are constructed in such a way that students develop in all these physical skills.  Even if some of these physical skills don’t seem that important for golf, they are all important to every individual’s well-being and quality of life.  A lack in development in any of these skills can have a negative effect on a golfer’s progress and enjoyment of the game.  It can also lead to injury which will further frustrate the efforts of a disciplined golfer.

Another great thing about working on all the components of physical fitness with our students is that gym does not become boring and monotonous.  It gives me great pleasure to see how our students are enjoying their physical training sessions and how they are becoming proud of their physical skills.  They are physically well-balanced and have learnt not to fall in the trap of over-emphasising certain components of fitness, as so many youngsters of today do when developing themselves physically.
