Phumlani Maluka Achieves Career Best Result

Phumlani Maluka, who joined the KeNako Academy at the start of 2012 as an average handicap golfer, is starting to reap the rewards of his efforts.  This past weekend at the Stilbaai Open Phumlani enjoyed a career best result with rounds of 70 and 73 and a total of 143 (one under par) for the 36 hole competition.  He missed getting into the play-off by just one stroke and finished in 3rd position, an outstanding achievement for this likeable young man.  Phumlani, who is from Johannesburg, has made great strides in his golf since the second half of 2013 and he is becoming a serious competitor.  He is known as ‘Whizz’ by his fellow students.

Caylum Boon continued his good form and finished in 8th position with rounds of 77 and 70.  Caylum had played the first 9 holes 5 over par so he made a good recovery.  He had got his afternoon round to 4 under par but 3 putted the 16th and 17th greens to fall back to 2 under par.  Franklin Manchest (76, 73) and Jade Buitendag (76, 73) were tied 15th and Jabulane Mabilane was 25th.  All of the local Club Open competitions count for the Southern Cape Senior and Junior Order of Merit tables.
