Andre Nel Shares Mossel Bay Open Title

Andre Nel continued with his excellent progress by finishing in a tie for first place in the Mossel Bay Open and then sharing the title after a 3 hole play-off.  4 Players tied at 3 under par 141, with Andre shooting rounds of 70 and 71.  The 4 players went into a play-off.  On the first extra hole, the par 4 10th, Andre made life very difficult for himself by hitting one of the pot bunkers off the tee.  He came out of the bunker and left himself an 80m pitch which he hit to 4 feet and then sank the putt to make a par 4 and continue in the play-off.  All four players made par at the first extra hole.  At the second play-off hole, the par 5 11th, Andre and Jovan Rebula both made birdie, whilst Heinrich Frylinck and Robbie Botha were eliminated at this hole.  Andre had been just short of the green for two shots and his eagle chip lipped out of the hole.  Jovan was in a greenside bunker for two and played an excellent bunker shot to get up and down.  The players than moved to the par 4 18th hole and when both made par the play-off had to be abandoned due to poor light, so it was agreed that Andre and Jovan would share the Title.  Congratulations to Andre and also to Jovan on their excellent result.  Jovan is one of South Africa’s top junior players.

Caylum Boon showed a return to form after a recent slump to finish in 7th place with rounds of 72 and 74 for a total of 146.
