George Golf Club hosted the final Junior Order of Merit event of the 2014 season and James Pennington followed up on his recent victory at Knysna with another win in the final SCJOOM that he will ever play by winning in a play-off that involved 5 players. Congratulations to James on a wonderful end to his junior golfing career at KeNako Academy and in the Southern Cape.
Once again there were some excellent performances produced, with even par 72 being scored by 5 players, creating something of a record for a SCJOOM tournament in terms of number of players involved in a play-off. KeNako students Alan Lones, Cameron Moralee and James Pennington shot 72 along with young development player Riaan Grootboom and 12 year old Martin Vorster. Special congratulations to Martin on an outstanding result for one so young! Martin recently represented South Africa in the U13 division at a tournament in China and he is definitely one to watch for the future.
James won the playoff at the first extra hole where he holed a great 20 foot downhill putt for birdie. Congratulations James and well played to all who made the playoff.
Another fabulous performance was achieved by one of the KeNako junior students, Devon Whitaker, who shot a very good 75, his best ever competition score. Devon’s nett score of 66 won the Best Nett in the A Division and his handicap as a result was promptly cut 2 shots from 9 to 7! Congratulations Devon – keep up the excellent progress and the great work!
