KeNako Head Professional Roger Wessels has won the annual Southern and Eastern Cape Regional PGA Championship played at Plettenberg Bay Golf Club. Roger shot a level par 72 to lead by one stroke after the first round. On day two he reached the par 5 14th hole one over par for his round but he finished superbly making birdie, par, birdie, par and an eagle at the last hole in front of the spectators to play the last 5 holes in 4 under par to shoot a 69 to win.
Roger was very happy with his performance. Roger’s golf is limited to an occasional round these days but he says that the constant focus he has on technique and mental skills while coaching the students at KeNako Academy helps him when he does get out on the golf course. Fellow academy coach Carlo Kok also played in the tournament and despite not playing his best golf he managed to finish 7th. This was Roger’s second tournament in the last few weeks after playing in the PGA National Championship just over a month ago. At that time Roger said that 3 rounds was a step too far so thank goodness this tournament was played over 36 holes! Well played Roger!!
