Heinrich Bruiners Wins Westlake Classic on IGT Cape Tour

KeNako is proud of the role that the academy has played in the success being achieved by Sunshine Tour professional Heinrich Bruiners.  Last week Heinrich won the Westlake Classic on the IGT Cape Tour, beating Peter Karmis in a play-off to secure the title.  Heinrich had turned professional as a very young man but he struggled to make end meets.  He was in the Ernie Els Foundation at Fancourt in 2007.  After 4 years of playing as a professional, interrupted by a serious motor car accident in 2010, he approached KeNako Academy with the thought of becoming a professional coach.  He was still young and after spending some time with Head Coach Roger Wessels, who went with him to the range to watch him and to discuss the options moving forwards, Roger recognised that it was still Heinrich’s dream to be a playing professional.

So a new journey started.  After his car accident in 2010 Heinrich had never really undergone proper rehabilitation, so the initial focus was working with KeNako’s Sports Science professional in the gym, strengthening Heinrich’s hip and legs.  Roger worked with Heinrich on the Driving Range and on the technical aspects of his swing and the results were amazing.  From being an ‘also ran’ Heinrich was to win a Sunshine Tour event within 18 months of commencing training at KeNako Academy.  Heinrich has recently been playing in some events on the IGT Tour due to a recess in Sunshine Tour events so that he can work on his game in tournament conditions and keep his game sharp.

Being a playing professional  means that Heinrich spends most of his time away from George but he keeps in regular touch with Roger who assists him with input and advice as and when required.  Heinrich travels back to George whenever he can and he then comes in to the KeNako Academy to train and to meet and greet the professionals, staff and students.  He plays a round with some of the students whenever he can, which is very good for the students.  Heinrich has spent some time at KeNako Academy this week and he is now departing for Johannesburg and the next Sunshine Tour event to be played at Sun City next week.  It has been great seeing you again Heinrich and we look forward to seeing many more excellent results in the coming months!
