Student Profile: Vera Raguth

Vera is proud of being part of a tight knit Swiss family and it was her father who introduced her to the game of golf when she was still very young. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree… Vera’s father is a very good golfer and she believes this is where she inherited her talent from. The first tournament Vera competed in was a small Club Tournament in her home town of Lenzerheide. One of her proudest moments was winning the Innerschweizer Meisterschaften tournament in Switzerland last year, with scores of 85, 72, 69 – some comeback after her opening round! Vera is dedicated to the game and tries to play on a daily basis.
She thoroughly enjoyed her time at KeNako Academy with coaches Roger Wessels and Carlo Kok. She was generous in her praise of Head Coach Roger Wessels: “Roger is the best coach I have ever met. He has improved my game significantly and has also made me mentally stronger. He is just a genius.” Vera says that being at KeNako helped her to enjoy a good dose of competitive competition with her fellow academy students, whilst getting to play on the different courses in the Southern Cape region was a privilege and a pleasure. She says that playing at Pinnacle Point in Mossel Bay was an amazing experience. The views and the beautiful cliffs are simply stunning. It was at Pinnacle Point were Vera won the Southern Cape Mixed Pairs Competition, partnered by fellow Swiss golfer Robert Foley. In Vera’s opinion Simola Golf course in Knysna reminds her of the courses in Switzerland. Her favourite club is her driver – she feels most confident with her driver in her hand!

Vera is not just a “one hit wonder”, she also has a passion for food and creating succulent, scrumptious meals. She completed a three-year cooking course at the Hotel Gegstroformaion Weggis, in Switzerland.
Vera is a fun, light-hearted young lady with a very good sense of humour and it was KeNako Academy’s pleasure to host Vera at the academy. We look forward to seeing her back at KeNako sometime in the not-too-distant future!
