At the beginning of 2016 KeNako Academy welcomed Franz-Wilhelm Husfeld to the academy. He was born in Namibia and his family moved down to Stellenbosch a few years ago where Fran-Wilhelm attended school at Paul Roos Gymnasium for the last 2 years. Fran-Wilhelm played in the KeNako School Festival in 2015 and he decided that he wanted to join KeNako Academy and start school at Rundle College.
His dream is to become a really good golfer. His Dad fist introduced Franz-Wilhelm to golf as a 6 year old and since Grade 5 golf has been his passion. In Grade 7 he played his first competition, a Saturday Club Competition together with his Dad. His first junior tournament was the Glacier Series at Royal Cape in 2015 when he was in Grade 10. The year 2015 is when Franz-Wilhelm decided to become more serious about his golf and he started practicing and gaining some confidence.
His best round to date is a 73. His favourite golf course in the world is Augusta National – he would love to putt on those greens one day – whilst his favourite local course is Simola in Knysna. He says that he wanted to join KeNako Academy because he will learn to understand better what to do to achieve his dreams.
The academy has great facilities and since he arrived he has been learning some ‘very good stuff’ as he put it and he also really enjoys the friendships that exist within the academy. The students have fun together and laugh a lot! He is enjoying his schooling at Rundle College where he has been impressed with the quality of the teachers and the good education. He thinks the new Principal is excellent.
His golfing hero is Jason Day, who has shown that you can overcome adversity and that one should never give up on their dream. Franz-Wilhelm used to love playing hockey and he also enjoyed tennis, but he has given everything else up to pursue his golfing dream.
