First Annual KeNako Cup a Huge Success

The KeNako Academy students competed in the first annual KeNako Cup. A 2-day Challenge created by the students, the KeNako Cup pits the School Leavers (Seniors) vs the School Goers (Juniors).

It was a real ‘hit’ amongst the students! The students played 54 holes over 2 days, including Foursomes, Betterball and finally the Singles matches. Both teams enjoyed the team spirit and competitive atmosphere.

Head Coach Roger Wessels says that some of the golf played in the challenge was outstanding. Franz-Wilhelm Husfeld excelled with a 4 under par 68 to halve his match with Jade Buitendag and Calvin Maia was also 4 under par in winning his match against Aidan Boon. It is good to see Aidan playing again after his long injury enforced lay-off. Aidan and André Nel were permitted to drive golf carts due to their injuries. Michael Botha played excellent golf to shoot a 1 under par round of 71, as did Aadil Parker. Jethro Newton too was under par despite being beaten by Caylum Boon. Hijke Pretorius scored a good gross 74, while Tim-Moritz Schlüter had a career best round of 81. Mandla Dlamini was under par and Francesco Quirici had one of his better rounds since arriving in South Africa.

Ultimately there could only be one winner, congratulations to the winning School Leaver team who won the challenge and title of KeNako Cup Champions for 2016. Well played all and well done on embracing the competition so whole-heartedly! The KeNako Cup is set to become a ‘Major’ on the annual KeNako Academy calendar. Thanks very much to George Golf Club and Kingswood Golf Estate for hosting the event. View pictures of the challenge in our gallery.
