André Nel 9th in South African Strokeplay Championships

KeNako Academy students competed in the South African Strokeplay Championships that was held at Kingswood Golf Club. The 144-strong field was perhaps the strongest ever to play in this prestigious tournament and it featured 47 international golfers from Scotland, England, Sweden, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Swaziland and Saudi Arabia. The SAGA made the course a par 70, with holes 1 and 7, which are normally par 5 holes, being played as par 4’s for this Championship.

André Nel was the top KeNako Academy student, finishing in 9th place, with Jeremy Freiburghaus next best. André followed his opening 67 with rounds of 69, 67 and 74. André was second amongst the South Africans in the field.

The players had great support on the course. Cloé Grand, Ladina Semadeni and Azelia Meichtry caddied for some of the boys during the tournament, whilst the junior students enjoyed supporting their senior peers and watching some excellent golf. Head Coach Roger Wessels spent time moving around the course watching the students and making some notes.
