With a golf coach as a father, Jeremy grew up spending many hours on the golf course – it has become his second home! He grew up playing golf and soccer, but ultimately had to make a decision between the two time consuming sports and at the age of 12 he made the decision to focus all his efforts solely on golf. Jeremy competed in his first junior tournament at the age of 6. Just 3 years later, at the tender age of 9, he competed in an U/18 tournament in Switzerland.
His goal is to become a golf professional – being a competitor on the PGA and European Tour has been his lifelong dream. He will be attending European Qualifying School in September this year with the intention of turning professional at the end of 2017. His proudest accomplishment to date was competing in his first European Tour event last year. Shooting 74, 74, he missed the cut by 4 shots, but it was an experience that enriched his life and motivated him even more to succeed. Jeremy says that it was a great opportunity and he feels privileged to have competed against some of the best players in Europe.He feels that his competitive advantage lies in his long game. He enjoys playing with his driver, taking advantage of the distances he hits the ball. His current handicap is +3. He looks up to Tiger Woods because of his mental toughness and Rickie Fowler because of his relaxed demeanour and laidback approach. His heart is set on playing Pebble Beach Golf Links in California, one of the most famous golf courses in America, as well as Augusta National Golf Course, host to the annual Masters Tournament. His favourite local course is Montagu Golf Course – he enjoys the layout, the tough, challenging conditions and the magnificent views.
Jeremy completed an apprenticeship as an IT Technician, but this has not deterred him from following his passion in the hopes of becoming a professional golfer. He still enjoys designing websites for friends and family members in his personal time. On average, Jeremy plays and/or practices 6 days a week. He is also committed to his fitness routine and exercises 5 times a week. This is his second visit to South Africa, but his first stint at KeNako Academy. In 2016 he spent a week in Mpumalanga when he competed in two tournaments at Leopard Creek.
Loris Schüpbach, another Swiss Kenako Academy student, recommended KeNako Academy to him. Jeremy says that he enjoys the competitive spirit shared in the hostel. “I love it. I have met fantastic people and made great friends. I love having structure to my day and enjoy the golf program. I enjoy having free time in the afternoon to play a friendly game against the other students. It is great having the professionals and fitness coaches around to ask for advice or assistance if I need it. I have learnt a lot from Roger Wessels (KeNako Academy Head Coach). He is a great player with a lot of insight and having competed on a professional level, he gives us great advice. It is brilliant staying with all the other guys, it feels like you’re staying with friends.” Jeremy has played some good golf whilst in South Africa. He was tied 13th in the Cape Province Open Championships, tied 14th in the Gauteng North Open and tied 7th in the African Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Jeremy will be returning to Switzerland in April.
