Student Profile: Maeva Fardel

Swiss sweetheart Maeva Fardel joined KeNako Academy in July 2018. Travelling from Switzerland to South Africa was a big change for the then 16-year-old. She felt a little nervous and unsure of herself, but has since embraced the change and now sees KeNako as her home. Maeva has blossomed into a kind-hearted and caring individual who always has time for her friends and loves lending support to those in need.

Maeva enjoys playing a round of golf with her parents. At a young age her father took her to the putting green and showed her how to hold a putter and read the lines. When Maeva was 13 years old she was introduced to a new golf coach which set things in motion for her. Once she started seeing results, she became more enthusiastic and fell in love with the game.

Maeva has a great passion for the game and would love to make it her profession. She also enjoys helping people and if her dream of becoming a professional player doesn’t pan out, she would like to become a psychologist.

Maeva is in the gym 3 times a week, she practices her putting skills once a week and she endeavours to play 3 – 4 times a week. Maeva has a tight-knit group of friends; she enjoys life at the academy and the golf programme saying that, “Head Golf Coach Roger Wessels is an amazing coach and I don’t have anything to complain about, the golf programme is fantastic.”

Her aspirations for 2019 are to become a more confident individual, bring her current 10 handicap down by 4 shots, and to be a Top Achiever at school. Maeva is an IG 1 (Grade 10) student at #RundleCollege. She speaks 3 languages, English, German and Italian. Her subjects include Business, Economics, Physics, French, Mathematics, English and German. Business Studies is the subject she enjoys the most. Maeva’s future plan is to finish her schooling at Rundle and then enrol at university, hopefully on a golf scholarship.

The course on top of her bucket list is Kilimanjaro Golf Club in Tanzania. She has seen pictures of the beautiful course and amazing wildlife and she would love the opportunity to explore and travel the country. Maeva takes every opportunity presented to her to play at Oubaai Golf Course. She feels the course is challenging and she enjoys the layout. Her favourite professional player is Tiger Woods. She is inspired by his resilient attitude, the way he faces adversity and his ball striking technique.

Wishing you all the best with your aspirations and goals for 2019 Maeva!
