Three KeNako Academy golfers had the privilege of representing the Southern Cape Team in the recent Triangular. Khanya Nhlengethwa and Matthew Bramford represented the u19 team whilst Agib Hughes was selected for the u17 team. A first time experience for all three KeNako golfers. The Southern Cape golfers departed George on Sunday morning, 11 October at 05:00, to compete against Border and Eastern Province. The junior u11, u13 and u15 teams competed at Port Elizabeth Golf Club whilst the u17 and u 19 teams competed at the challenging Humewood Golf Club. Players were greeted with light rain. The Southern Cape Team (18) defeated Eastern Province with 1 point (17). Congratulations to the Southern Cape Team on their victory!
Matthew Bramford; “It was great to be playing for a team again as it’s not something we normally do. It was also a wonderful experience playing a proper links course.”
Agib Hughes; “It was obviously great to make the team this year, it’s always nice being able to represent your region. One thing that I really enjoyed was that I was able to make it with my mates at hostel, but also with the other guys on the team. Week in and week out we’re all competing to beat each other, and to come together and play as a team really cools down the tension and competitiveness between each other and gave us a chance to get to know each other better. As far as the competition went, it was really wonderful. The course was beautiful and the other teams were welcoming and great fun to play with. Overall I really enjoyed it and will definitely miss these type of events.”
Khanya Nhlengethwa; “I was very proud to be in the Southern Cape Team. It was my goal beginning of this year to make it to the team. Being part of the team made me believe that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. I realised that I am not the best, but I am the best in my own way. It took sacrifices, self belief, motivation and dedication. If you want, you can. You just have to give it your all.”
